Semi-permanent make up procedure at MBNS and Qutis Clinics
An article this week in the Daily Mail highlighted the growing popularity of semi permanent make up in the UK. It follows the trend in the USA by many A List Celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Madonna and Gwen Stefani who are fans, and the lure of having a hassle free make up routine draws many people to going down this route.
The results can be amazing if done well by an experienced professional. It lasts about 1-2 years and a top up is required to keep the colour perfect.
Unfortunately, along with the rise in popularity, comes an influx of practitioners who lack skill and experience. Training courses run for only a couple of days and as the industy is unregulated, the technicians can work on anyone willing to pay. Also and along with discount offers from places such as Groupon, the service is devalued. This should start the alarm bells ringing in the ears of anyone wanting to go down this route.
Steps you should take before having semi permanent make up:
1. Firstly and foremost, you must choose an experienced semi-permanent make up artist. This procedure takes a great deal of skill that is gathered over time. Ask to see their before and after photos of the brows, lips and eyes they have done previously.
2. Ask them about their experience, training and testimonials from other clients.
3. Ask to see their certificates. Semi-permanent make up artists should also be regulated by the local district council.
4. Never be lured into big discounted offers – they usually are too good to be true.
5. Ensure that the location is sterile and professional. The equipment must be sterile and disposed of correctly also. It is never a good idea to go to someone’s house for treatment.
Fay Verney – semi-permanent make up artist
We here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics have our own Semi-permanent make up artist, Fay Verney. Fay has been in business over ten years with many happy clients who keep coming back. Existing clients also refer their friends too, and her business has grown greatly over the years.

Madge may be ‘expressing herself’, but if you would like to Vogue another way, IPL Permanent hair removal is available at MBNS and Qutis Clinics!
Who’s that girl? OK, it is a personal preference, but dear old Madge is at is again with a recent selfie posted (in the mail online) of her extremely hairy armpits!
Never one to shy away from controversy, she is putting it out there, that for her, hairy armpits are OK.
IPL Permanent hair removal is successful in removing hair permanently and safely.
Well, we find that many of our clients who come to visit us at MBNS and Qutis Clinics prefer to have their underarm hair removed permanently with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment.
This light treatment passes over the hair and destroys it at the follicle. The hair falls out naturally over the course of a few days. The area will be hair free for many weeks, until the next cycle begins. Treatments are spaced twelve weeks apart, as a hair cycle on the body is actually twelve weeks, and usually 6-8 treatments are needed to permanently eliminate the hair.
So if you do not want to go the route that dear Madonna is following, why not book a consultation with one of our specialist nurses who will be able answer your questions regarding permanent hair removal but also will be able to discuss other treatments we offer here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics including wrinkle treatments, dermal fillers, red veins and pigmentation, and general skin health.
Why not call us on 01844 213007 for MBNS and 01993 704050 for Qutis and we will get back to you quickly. Alternatively if you prefer to contact us via email, please click HERE for MBNS and HERE for Qutis.

Here at MBNS Clinic in Thame, and Qutis Clinics, we have been helping clients get rid of their unwanted hair for over many years with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Permanent Hair Removal. The treatment is very straightforward and liberating for those who thought that they would have to shave or wax for the rest of their lives!
In order to be a successful candidate for IPL Permanent Hair Removal you have to adhere to the following:
1. No active suntan – that includes fake tan such as Fake Bake or sunbed use. This is because the light that removes the hair at the follicle is attracted to the pigment in the hair, but if you have a tan, it will see the whole area as pigment, and you may experience a burn.
2. Avoid usage of St John’s Wort for a month before treatment. This homeopathic anti-stress remedy can make you light sensitive, and again, you could burn.
Treatment for IPL is spaced six weeks apart if the hair being removed is on the face and twelve weeks apart if treatment is on the body. This is the length of a complete hair cycle.
Here below is a video of the treatment itself by one of our nurses – it is quick, easy and effective. You really can say goodbye to unwanted hair for good.
If you would like to find out more about IPL Permanent Hair Removal or any of the other treatments offered at MBNS (01844 213007), Qutis Clinic Witney (01993 704050), or Qutis Clinic Abingdon (01235 533772), kindly call now on to book a consultation with one of our specialist nurses, or fill out the contact form HERE and we will get back to you swiftly. We look forward to welcoming you to our clinics.

Victoria Beckham has IPL laser hair removal.
Photo: Daily Mail Online
It has been reported in the Daily Mail online today that Victoria Beckham no longer shaves her legs and now has laser hair removal! Advised by her friend Eva Longoria, Mrs B now has smooth legs and wastes no more of her valuable time on daily shaving!
Well, we could have told her that years ago! At MBNS Clinic in Thame, we have been treating clients for removal of unwanted hair for over 17 years now and the results are permanent and freeing!
Clients require several treatments (spaced 12 weeks apart on the body, or 6 weeks apart on the face, as that is the length of a complete hair cycle). Once the hair has diminished, you are left with smooth, hassle free legs plus time to get on with other things such as launching your designer clothing label or running four miles a day, such as Victoria!
It is also great to see how clients help us do our job by referring our clinic to their friends, much as Eva advised Victoria about going to have IPL laser hair removal. The best advertisement for us at MBNS is happy clients sharing their experiences with friends, resulting in them having a little ‘thank you” from us in the form of a £50 voucher to put towards their next treatment (after their friend has had their first treatment).
If you would like to find out more regarding IPL Permanent Hair Removal or any of the other treatments such as dermal fillers or maybe wrinkle reduction offered at MBNS Clinic in Thame by our specialist nurses, why not call us now on 01844 213007 or fill out the form HERE and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

A story was reported in the Daily Mail this week about a young woman, Anna Taylor, who had used a sunbed every day for three years and as a result, developed a cancerous tumour which after being removed, has left her scarred for life. To read the full article, click HERE.
From the Daily Mail online
Although Anna had discontinued using sunbeds for over ten years, the damage had already been done, and at 33 she had to have an operation to remove the basal cell carcinoma in her cheek.
NEVER USE A SUNBED!
We here at MBNS Clinic in Thame are experts in keeping your skin healthy and safe from the damaging rays of the sun and UVA and UVB light that sunbeds produce. Much has been written about the affect of sunbed UV light on the skin and there are more than 200,000 cases of this type of cancer a year in the UK.
We advocate use of a good SPF factor 50 along with iS Clinical’s antioxidant serums such as Pro Heal and Super Serum to protect and feed the skin. We advise that you NEVER use a sunbed and when in the real sunshine, always use a good SPF a hat and sunglasses. If you do want a tanned look, then use a fake tan product such as the FAKE BAKE range, you can get the healthy glow….safely!
Recently, the NHS has brought out a very striking poster showing exactly what damage a sunbed can do to the skin…see below – it is shocking!
If you would like to arrange a consultation with one of our nurse specialists regarding the health of your skin, why not ring us on 01844 213007 or fill out the form HERE and we will get back to you quickly.
MBNS Clinic in Thame offers many treatments for healthy skin such as wrinkle relaxants, dermal fillers, IPL Photorejuvenation (which helps to remove sun damaged skin!) and IPL Permanent hair reduction to name a few. Our aim is to help you keep your skin healthy and look your natural best.

Do you suffer from uneven pigmentation on your skin? Do you have any brown (age) spots that are the result of sun damage? Would you prefer for your complexion to be more even?
Before and After 5 treatments with IPL and iS Clinical’s White Lightening
Well, here at MBNS in Thame, we have several products and treatments that can help with evening out skin tone and removing sun/age spots on the skin. We have a three pronged approach to this: IPL, White Lightening and SPF
1. INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL) This treatment targets the pigmented areas with a light energy which initially darkens the area and after a few days, the brown spots slough off when washing. We also treat necks, décolletage and hands! You will probably need several treatments to get the best results, but IPL therapy also increases collagen production in the skin making it healthier and fuller, in short, it is a fantastic photo facial.
Available in a complex and a serum
2. Working hand in hand with IPL treatments for uneven pigmentation is a great product by the iS Clinical range called WHITE LIGHTENING™ which is a distinctive formula containing botanical ingredients such as mushroom extract that lightens skin and Norwegian sea kelp that gently exfoliates and prevents new pigment from forming. White Lightening is available in a complex and a serum. On consultation, your nurse will go through which would be the correct product for your skin.
iS Clinical’s SPF 50 – to be used ALL YEAR ROUND!
3. iS Clinical’s SPF Factor 50 is your protection against the sun, your moisturiser AND your prevention from these brown spots from returning. You should be using SPF daily, not just in the summer months!
So, what are the results from combining IPL and White Lightening?
Lighter, brighter skin
Reduction of hyperpigmented areas
Skin feels moisturised and softer
Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
So if you would like to find out more about IPL Photorejuvenation and iS Clinical’s White Lightening, or any of the other services or treatments we offer at MBNS such as dermal fillers, botox or IPL permanent hair removal, kindly call us on 01844 213007 to book a consultation with one of our nurse specialists, or fill out the form HERE and we will get back to you swiftly.

Male clientele for aesthetic treatments is up 25% on previous year.
An article in the Daily Mail last week delivered the message that male Botox , or as it is becoming known as ‘Brotox’ is on the substantial rise! You can read the full article HERE.
It states that clinics are reporting an increase in treatments for males by 25% over the previous year, and MBNS clinic in Thame, Oxfordshire would agree to this statistic.
MBNS has been treating both female and male patients for over 17 years. The male perspective is really no different from the female one: both want to look well rested and refreshed, without looking ‘done’. The experienced nurse professionals at MBNS give treatments that provide a natural look, the aim being to make you look your natural best at all times.
It is nice to see the increase of partners coming for Botox treatment together, where maybe in the old days, there was a little more secrecy.
Whether it is Botox for frown lines, hyperhidrosis (underarm sweating) or Bruxism (teeth grinding), this multi faceted medicine is so effective. Coupled with dermal fillers and treatments for the removal of sun damage and age spots, all treatments result in a fresh faced, and above all, natural look. It is nice to see the increase of partners coming for treatment together, where maybe in the old days, there was a little more secrecy.
The regular male clientele are often happy to talk about their experiences also, and MBNS have dedicated an area to their website all about the male perspective, see HERE.
If you would like to make a consultation with one of the nurse professionals, kindly call 01844 213007 or alternatively, fill out the contact us form HERE and we will get back to you swiftly. We look forward to welcoming you and your partner to MBNS.

Did you know that 70% of women ‘manage’ their own facial hair removal?- by that I mean plucking and even shaving the area, sometimes daily! Hairs seem to pop up out of nowhere and when spotted, are unceremoniously plucked, waxed and shaved only to be repeated the next day or so! Well that ordeal can be a thing of the past.
We here at MBNS our nurse specialists have been treating patients for over seventeen years with Intense Pulsed Light treatment (IPL) for permanent hair removal. A light passes over the hair which kills it at the root. The hair follicles fall out after a few days and you are hair free for about six weeks as six weeks is the length of a hair cycle. Treatments are six weeks apart on the face and you may need 6-8 treatments. After all the hair has been permanently removed, you will be hair free and you will no longer have to pluck, wax or shave – now does that sound like music to your ears?
There are a few guidelines to having successful permanent hair removal treatment which are:
1. You cannot have an active suntan, used a sun bed or used fake tan in the last month.
Reason: the light is attracted to the pigment in the hair, and if your skin has pigment then the whole area will be treated and you may receive a burn.
2. If you take St John’s Wort, it needs to be stopped for a month prior to treatment.
Reason: this herbal medication can make the skin light sensitive and you may experience a burn.
3. The hair must have some pigment to it. On consultation the nurse will assess it. Even if you think your hair is blonde/grey , it may still have pigment and your treatment will be successful.
So now you are armed with the facts, why not give us a call on 01844 213007 to book a consultation with one of our specialist nurses or fill out the form HERE and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Unsightly facial hair can be a thing of the past so what are you waiting for?

From The Consulting Room:Botox beautician pleads guilty in court to five charges of fraud. This week has seen the ongoing story of beautician Jamie Winter, originally from Scarborough, who was arrested in May 2012 and charged with fraud by false representation, having treated several people and claimed to them that she was trained and qualified to inject botulinum toxin; which it transpires she purchased over the Internet. One women treated by her told police that she had suffered a reaction to the procedure which had left her with swollen eyes. The court considered various assault charges, but these were later dropped as at the time her clients were perfectly happy for her to administer the drug. Ms. Winter admitted to Hull Crown Court that she had mislead her customers over the extent of her training and pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud by false representation between July 2011 and August 2012. On leaving the court she is said to have told reporters that she has administered the drug on herself but is not seeking a future career in it. Jamie Winter will be sentenced on 11th November.
Marea Brennan Thorns RN NIP MSc is one of the MBNS Nurses who are also toxin and dermal filler trainers.
Untrained individuals performing Botox and other injectable treatments are becoming more widespread in the UK where the the lure to charge high prices is paramount over the safety of the patient. As you can see from the article above, the person in question was not trained and qualified to inject the toxin and her client suffered as a consequence of her lack of knowledge and training.
Always ask about the training and experience of your practitioner if undergoing any aesthetic treatments.
At MBNS clinic in Thame, rest assured that you will be welcomed and treated by one of five professional nurse practitioners with over 17 years experience in the aesthetic industry. Three of MBNS’ nurses are also trainers in this field and have shared their knowledge teaching plastic surgeons and fellow nurses alike for many years.
If you are considering any aesthetic treatments why not give MBNS a call on 01844 213007 to book a consultation or fill out the form HERE and find out more about our team and the treatments we offer including dermal fillers and permanent hair removal. We look forward to meeting you and helping you look your natural best safely and professionally at all times.

We here at MBNS are often asked about our fantastic IPL and Laser hair Removal treatment, so here are the 10 Frequently Asked Questions For IPL/ Laser Hair Removal
Q: What is the difference between IPL and laser?
A: The main difference between IPL and laser is how the light, heat, and energy is delivered; Laser delivers a direct energy, whereas IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light which is dispersed over a larger area. Both treatments are effective and will offer good results.
Q: Is the treatment painful?
A: The treatment is no more painful than waxing. MBNS strive for patient comfort and satisfaction at all times. During treatment your practitioner will endeavour to make you as comfortable as possible, we will apply a cool gel to the skin before treatment and have cold air blowing directly on the skin during treatment.
Q: Is it permanent?
Yes, once your treatment course is complete all the hair follicles that have been treated have been permanently killed and will not return. This is normally around 20% of the hair present and which is in growth phase at any one time. This is why a course of 6 treatments are recommended for the fullest removal.
Q: When can I have the treatment
The best time for a female to have treatment is just after her menstrual cycle; if recently waxed or plucked we would recommend waiting 2-3 weeks before your first IPL/ Laser treatment.
Q: I’m pregnant, I am still able to have treatment?
No. There have been no clinical studies to prove that Laser Hair Removal may have side effects to pregnant or breastfeeding women, however there have been no studies to say treatment is safe during pregnancy either. Because of this MBNS practices on the cautious side and does not treat pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patient safety is always our first concern.
Q: What do I do with my body hair between treatments?
We request that patients do not remove the hairs by the root between treatments, for example no waxing, plucking, or hair removal creams. Trimming or shaving is the best way to maintain your hair growth during your treatment cycle. Removing the hair follicle by the root during your treatment course will upset the hair growth cycle and could result in more treatments being required for complete removal.
Q: Does the treatment only work on dark, coarse hair?
Dark hairs are the most ideal hairs…As long as there is some pigmentation in the hair follicle, the laser hair removal will be successful. Our IPL & Laser Hair Removal machines accommodate for every skin type. During consultation your practitioner will confirm the exact results you can expect to achieve.
Q: Are there any health risks involved?
It is important to visit a clinic which is led by healthcare professionals with expert training and experience behind them.
Q: Can I have the treatment anytime?
The only guidelines for Laser Hair Removal are; you cannot have an active suntan or be wearing any fake tan. You cannot be currently taking any medication or herbal pills that cause photosensitivity (for example St. John’s Wart), and you cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Q: How much will the treatment cost me?
Treatment prices vary depending on the area the patient wishes to have treated, MBNS is competitively priced and we do offer discounts on treatment packages. We use the best Laser machines on the market which offer maximum results, the benefit of this is that fewer treatments will be required for complete hair removal.
