The lowdown on Botox and Lip Fillers at MBNS

February 12th, 2014

We here at MBNS Clinic in Thame have been helping our clients achieve their skin health goals for over 17 years and during the many consultations that have taken place before treatment, two of the same questions come up time after time to our team of nurse prescribers and specialist nurses.  The top two are always about Botox and Lip Fillers.

img-faceliftQ.   I would like to have a Botox treatment, how long does it last and how often can I be treated?

Here at MBNS we like to give what we call a “European look” with our wrinkle relaxing treatment.  To us, that means that although the areas have been treated with the medicine, you will not be left with a frozen look or ‘deer stuck in headlights’ look as is seen many times over in the USA.    A ‘full’ Botox treatment (that is three areas treated:  the crows feet, between the eyes and the forehead) will last 12 weeks or longer, and your nurse will advise you of the date when you may safely have another treatment.

For safety sake, and because Botox is a prescribed medicine (POM), you cannot be treated any sooner than 12 weeks apart.  You should be fully aware also that this and any injectable treatments should be performed only by a medical professional, and in MBNS’s case, an Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, of which we have five in our busy Thame Clinic.

img-threadVeinsQ.  I want fuller lips, but I don’t want to end up with a trout pout!

We err on the side of caution here at MBNS Clinic.  Our patients who want to have a lip enhancement are advised to have a lip hydrator such as Juvederm Volbella.  This fantastic treatment adds minimal volume to lips that have lost collagen due to ageing, so the shape of the lips is not changed, they just look softer and more youthful.  Gone are the days of the “trout pout” of yesteryear.  Again, this treatment is performed by one of our team of highly experienced Specialist Nurses.

This month of February, MBNS has a special offer on Juvederm Volbella.  Call us on 01844 213007 to find out more and book your consultation.  If you would prefer to send us an email, you can do so HERE and we will get back to as soon as we can.

We look forward to helping you look your natural best and achieve your skin health goals at MBNS.

Beautician lied about her Botox training qualifications!

November 12th, 2013

A beautician was sentenced to 150 hours’ community work yesterday for lying to Botox clients that she qualified at Harley Street.  Customers thought they were getting a bargain price at £90 a session but in reality Jamie Winter was using cheap Botox that she had bought on the internet.

A visit to MBNS Clinic in Thame, Oxon

MBNS have 5 experienced nurse profesionals who can safely administer wrinkle relaxing treatments.

This story was  reported in the Daily Mail today.  It details how a beautician (not a medical professional such as an aesthetic nurse or doctor) injected Botox,  but was not properly trained to do so.  She lied about her qualifications and put her clients’ safety as risk.

I know I have blogged about this subject previously, but it is crucial that when a person is researching where to go for treatment such as Botox or Dermal Fillers that they seek a  professional:  a nurse or doctor – one who is medically trained to administer the treatment and one who is able provide medical follow up treatment and advice.

We here at MBNS have five experienced nurse practitioners and have been in the aesthetic business for over 17 years.  We have over 5000 patients on our database and our nurses train other medical practitioners in this field also.

It is crucial that when a person is researching where to go for treatment such as Botox or Dermal Fillers that they seek an experienced  professional

Do be aware that if pricing is low, the expertise of the practitioner is most probably low too!   Botox is a POM (prescription only medicine) and you are required to see a nurse prescriber face to face to obtain it.  Only after your full medical history is taken and you are fit and well can you go ahead and have treatment.  It is not ethical to discount this treatment also.

Do your research, and then do please call us on 01844 213007 to book a consultation with one of our specialist nurse team.  Alternatively you can fill out the form by clicking HERE and we will get back to you swiftly.

We look forward to making you  look your natural best.  Rest assured you are in safe hands at MBNS Clinic in Thame.

Only a professional practitioner should be injecting Botox

October 22nd, 2013

From The Consulting Room:
Botox beautician pleads guilty in court to five charges of fraud.  This week has seen the ongoing story of beautician Jamie Winter, originally from Scarborough, who was arrested in May 2012 and charged with fraud by false representation, having treated several people and claimed to them that she was trained and qualified to inject botulinum toxin; which it transpires she purchased over the Internet. One women treated by her told police that she had suffered a reaction to the procedure which had left her with swollen eyes. The court considered various assault charges, but these were later dropped as at the time her clients were perfectly happy for her to administer the drug. Ms. Winter admitted to Hull Crown Court that she had mislead her customers over the extent of her training and pleaded guilty to five charges of fraud by false representation between July 2011 and August 2012. On leaving the court she is said to have told reporters that she has administered the drug on herself but is not seeking a future career in it. Jamie Winter will be sentenced on 11th November.
Marea training

Marea Brennan Thorns RN NIP MSc is one of the MBNS Nurses who are also toxin and dermal filler trainers.

Untrained individuals  performing Botox and other injectable treatments are becoming more widespread in the UK where the the lure to charge high prices is paramount over the safety of the patient.  As you can see from the article above, the person in question was not trained and qualified to inject the toxin and her client suffered as a consequence of her lack of knowledge and training.

Always ask about the training and experience of your practitioner if undergoing any aesthetic treatments.

At MBNS clinic in Thame, rest  assured that you will be welcomed and treated by one of five professional nurse practitioners with over 17 years experience in the aesthetic industry.  Three of MBNS’ nurses are also trainers in this field and have shared their knowledge teaching plastic surgeons and fellow nurses alike for many years.

If you are considering any aesthetic treatments why not give MBNS a call on 01844 213007 to book a consultation or fill out the form HERE and find out more about our team and the treatments we offer including dermal fillers and permanent hair removal.  We look forward to meeting you and helping you look your natural best safely and professionally at all times.
