We here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics are so proud of our Nurse colleague, Adrian Baker who has recently received a mark of 94% in his Nurse Prescriber Examination. This is no mean feat and is recognised as a very difficult qualification. Well done Adrian on this great achievement and once again the nurse team at MBNS & Qutis are leading the way in independent nurse led teams.

Getting your skin ready – Olympic style.

With all the excitement of the Olympics coming to London this Summer, a concern has come to surface in regards to some Athletes' fitness, not their bodies, but in fact their skin! Did you know skin problems rank among athletes’ most common complaints? From dry skin to even skin cancer?

Hello from the Newbie!

I have just started my exciting new job with MBNS on Saturdays as receptionist and I can honestly say it’s been a pleasure! I am working with a great team in a calming, inviting atmosphere.

Being a previous patient , I can really understand why our regular existing patients are loyal and want to keep coming back! Having so much to offer here, its amazing how you feel when you leave!

I have just experienced my first treatment of IPL hair removal on only one of my underarms, as I wanted to see the difference as the hair grew back. After only one treatment I was shocked to see such a huge difference. Only a few hairs came back through. They seemed to be much thinner and that ghastly dark shadow was gone!

The treatment took a short time of only 10 minutes with little discomfort, as the area was numbed with ice beforehand and I also had lovely cold air blowing on to the area whilst Marea treated me.

Now I am totally converted to IPL hair removal, it definately beats shaving or waxing! It’s a well worth investment to be completely hair free. I am very excited to have the rest of my underarm hair removal treatments done!

Raising an eyebrow!

It seems that over the past few years, my eyebrows had begun to disappear - they had become thinner and seemed to just fade away – oh the joys of menopause! I knew that eyebrows correctly placed could give the impression of a mini facelift or brow lift. So, I began to find out more about eyebrow tatooing and went to visit Fay Verney, who is an extremely skilled Semi Permanent make up artist to see what she could do for me. My hair colour is pretty fair, (see picture on left) so I wanted my brows to match this and still have a nice shape, but not be too dark. Fay told me that she could give my eyebrows a more defined look, while at the same time making them look completely natural.

My brows were numbed with an anaesthetic cream and so the procedure was quite painfree. Fay initally drew in the area in black pen which was amusing to say the least, but the shape was perfect. Next she very gently made many tiny brush strokes on my brows with the tattooing pen. These strokes perfectly mimicked actual hairs.

The procedure took about an hour and a half and the results are below. I am thrilled with my new brows, they look amazing! Thanks to Fay!

Report from the 10th Aesthetic Medicine World Conference in Monaco

Stephanie & I attended the 10th Aesthetic Medicine World Conference in Monaco last weekend.

It was busy & very well attended. We were pleased to see that Syneron with their eMax & eTwo had a high profile, as we have invested in both of these lasers.

We attended lectures on Radiesse® and it seems it is the favoured filler for hand rejuvenation and it is one if our fillers of choice.

We noticed a proliferation of new Chinese, Korean & Japanese toxins & fillers but none of them seemed to have very much published evidence.

Highlight of the exhibition was meeting up with my old friend Liz Hughes who is now the European Director for Zeltiq Cool Sculpting . We will be doing a feasibility study on adding this therapy to our treatment portfolio.

Since I joined MBNS, 2 years ago, I have been having all my unwanted hair treated with laser hair removal and I am so happy with the results.

I began with my unwanted facial hair and underarms, and once I had finished my course for both areas, I moved on to my legs and bikini area. I used to require a waxing every 4 weeks, which was fine, however it often left me with nasty ingrown hairs and raw pink skin! However, the worst inconvenience was I needed to grow my hair before my treatment! I can now shave my legs between my treatments, as my hair follicles are 'killed' each treatment and it's only the new hairs that I have to shave – which means my maintenance is minimal! Why don't you give permanent hair removal a try?

For years I debated about my teeth whitened – the idea of having to sleep with trays in my mouth for weeks was so unappealing I kept putting the idea on the ‘back burner’. However, as soon as I found out MBNS were offering teeth whitening, a treatment that would only take 60 minutes and results that would match my dental practice – I was overjoyed!

I was initially concerned about sensitivity as I suffer from highly sensitive teeth however my treatment experience was a very relaxing, pain free one and I highly recommend this treatment to all my friends and family! I was very pleased to find that my teeth whiteness increased by 6 shades after my treatment and there was very little aftercare involved. The only guideline I had to follow were no white food for 48 hours and no smoking, as I’m not a smoker and I had could think of plenty of delicious white food this wasn’t an issue at all!

Be armed and ready for the sunshine – get your SPF on!

Yesterday was Mother's Day and although the sun didn't shine as much as it is today, it does herald the real beginnings of spring. My parents are lucky enough to spend the winter months in Spain, so get a few more warm rays than we do. Unfortunately that means that they also get a lot of dangerous UV rays, so I sent Mum an IsClinical SPF 25 which is also moisturising, great for a post menopausal skin and will give her all the protection she needs from the sun!

Luckily my 18 year old daughter has grown up with me talking about the need for good sun protection, and she is an all year round user of an Obagi SPF 30. This is great on an oily skin as is oil free and has no perfume, so can be applied as often as required. My absolute favourite is the Jan Marini SPF 30, although a little more expensive, it smells divine and feels like silk, a treat for my skin rather than a thick cream. All of these can be bought from MBNS either from the clinic itself or online. So don't put off protecting your skin and keeping it healthy, now is the time to start. Use them year round instead of a morning moisturiser.

Ematrix – skin resurfacing at its best!

Recently i had a second eMatrix skin resurfacing treatment. Officially, this treatment is also called 'Sublative Rejuvenation'. The treatment itself has changed my skin tone and texture quite dramatically. It consists of Radio Waves passing through the skin in pulses which in turn blasts the collagen under the skin causing it to repair itself by building up more new collagen so plumping up the skin. It also makes lines and wrinkles less noticeable and the skin more healthy and thicker.

As you can see from the pictures on the left, the results are quite dramatic. My 'before' shot shows my mouth corners quite pronounced and the skin slightly sallow. However two weeks later the area is plumping up nicely and looking much more healthy.

Straight after the treatment, my skin was red and tender. I put Lycogel make up on to cover the redness and help heal the surface more quickly. It covered very well and I was able to go about my day without feeling self concious. By the 4th day, the surface of my skin had lost the redness but then all the great work was continuing under the surface. For the next 8 weeks the collagen was continung to be stimulated so making my skin much healthier. This is conjunction with the iS Clnical range of products really has fast forwarded my skin to a new level. I am booked in for my 3rd treatment next week, so will let you know how I get on. I strongly recommend this treatment for ageing skin!

Could worms have the answer for halting the ageing process in skin?

Cut a flat worm in half & it will become two worms. Chop it into 20 pieces in it will become 20 worms. Now a team from Nottingham university have found that worms can regenerate indefinitely.
