So how was everyone’s summer holiday? It may now only be a distant memory of sandy beaches and gorgeous cocktails! Anyway, we hope you are all refreshed and relaxed and also happy the kids have returned to school!
Now you may be noticing that since you have got back from your trip, your skin has been kissed a little too much by the sun? Can you see any pigmentation and sun spots? Have you also noticed that all that squinting at the sun has left its mark in the form of …..to put it nicely….a few little wrinkles?
Well, in light of this, maybe it is time for to try our skin Sundowner treatments that could include…
1. A Fire and Ice Medical facial which will hydrate the skin and open pores to allow the goodness of vitamins and antioxidants to penetrate the skin and bring it back to health.
2. Sunspot SOS treatment: Zap away sunspots with IPL photorejuvenation treatments. Target those areas to remove the pigmentation and at the same time blast into the collagen to allow the skin to produce more collagen to make the skin feel plumper and healthier.
3. Squinting Wrinkle Treatment – wipe away the sun squints around the eyes with a muscle relaxing treatment.
So now it is time for you to take action! Call one of our clinics and get booked in! Get “skin health ready” for the Autumn!
If you would like to find out more about the many skin treatments and products we have at MBNS and Qutis Clinics, such as wrinkle treatments, IPL for the removal of sun damaged skin, or fat dissolving injections, kindly call MBNS on 01844 213007 or Qutis on 01993 704050 and we will get back to you swiftly. I have been using IS Clinical skin care for 2 years now and it never fails to impress me. I originally began using the skin care as my skin was lacking radiance, and was suffering from to occasional acne break-out – this was unacceptable in my late 20’s! I started using Cleansing Complex morning and evening and noticed a dramatic difference straight away; the boost my skin had from just a simple clean twice a day was amazing. I also went on to use Pro-Heal Serum followed by the treatment sunscreen as my daytime regime and Poly-vitamin Serum as my evening regime – again my skin has never been happier or more radiant! Unfortunately, my perfect skin was flawed from my favourite pastime, cycling. From pollen and wind, and despite wearing protective glasses my eyes became very dry and itchy .It seemed to look and feel like exzema. I tried everything from E45 cream to steroid drops that were prescribed to me from my GP. I finally went back to my faithful IS Clinical range and tried ‘Moisturizing Complex‘. This is a hydrating, soothing, protecting cream that cured my irritated skin in hours! I’ve noticed that continued use of the complex has made my skin supple, smooth, plump – I’m in love!

Here come the males!
According to the BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), there has been a dramatic increase in males have cosmetic procedures. This is largely due to an influx of male targeted advertising and male centered media attention. Even with the recession, the rise in procedures was noted. An increase of 17% to 3,624 treated over previous year, (3,004). Men are going for smaller procedures more frequently and clinics now should now open their arms to this growing market and make them feel more welcome!
Since the early 90’s when the Aesthetic industry took off, clients being treated were on the whole, female. They walked into a soothing female focused environment where they could be among kindred spirits: united and safe within the walls of a discreet, confidential and caring clinic.
These principles, of course, still hold true, however now the mental shift has to be made to make the male clients feel as welcome, and not make them feel as if they have stepped onto the movie set Grease with Frankie Avalon singing “Beauty School Drop Out”.
Clinics need of course to be warm and welcoming, with the invitation to enjoy a frothy latte or cup of tea whilst waiting for your Nurse Practitioner. The décor should be neutral and fresh with literature in the waiting catering to this growing market.
When we surveyed our male clients at our MBNS clinic in Thame, Oxfordshire, the majority said that at first impression, they felt a little embarrassed when they walked through our door. Some likened it to walking into a sorority meeting, and felt that they ought to retreat.. But they stood their ground! They had made the giant leap to decide to come and have treatment in the first place. They’d even started using good skin care products and an SPF!, but on arrival, they still felt like the new kid on the block!
We have recently refurbished our clinic to meet the demands of both our female and male clients. We are sensitive to the outward appearance and indeed want to make that ultimate first impression be a positive one to ALL we treat.
So here are a few ‘quick fire’ tips to make your clinic more balanced. The confidentiality and warmth still of course is paramount and still emanates, but the following should be taken into consideration:
1 Neutal Colours on the wall and furnishings
2. A great choice of beverages made from a good barista coffee maker!
3. A variety of good Male Magazines of the GQ variety along with a possibly Psychology Today and Vogue or Marie Claire– please no Weekly glossies!
4. Point of Sale focusing male treatments
This male market is a growing one and as our treatments and clientele evolve, we clinicians need to move with the times and get ready because here they come!

Like many, I knew nothing about skin rejuvenation and protecting my skin in my younger days – Tanning oil springs to mind! Only for the past 3 years have I learnt the importance of wearing a good quality medical sunscreen, such as the IS Clinical SPF 25. I now wear this daily no matter rain or shine. Those rays can still get you, you know.
Unfortunately, as result of my poor skin health in my early twenties, I am now suffering with sun damaged skin, with uneven pigmentation and broken blood vessels. After talking with the nurses at MBNS, I was introduced to a technologically advanced light treatment called skin rejuvenation. Straight after treatment the pigmentation had gone darker, and within 2 weeks, the pigmentation literally peeled away leaving clear skin. I have now had 2 treatments and all my patients have noticed how fresh and clear my skin looks. I can’t wait for my next treatment, when I can finally give the boot to sun damage!

As a 22 year old young women looking your best, feeling great and socialising plays a massive part in your life.
However for me, with my turbulent skin and acne scarring from my teenage years, I felt uncomfortable in my own skin, so when it came to going out in the evenings, i would feel the need to cake my face in foundation and more often than not, far too much bronzer to try and hide my biggest insecurity!
eMatrix treatments have made such a difference to my skin!
When my sister announced she was getting married and I was to be head bridesmaid, it dawned on me that my make-up would have to be minimal and that my bad skin would be on display in all their beautiful wedding photos.
Before first eMatrix treatment
When I went in for my first treatment I was rather nervous, however the staff were very comforting and explained the whole procedure to me. I was given numbing cream that coverd my face and down onto my neck to make the experience as comfortable as possible. I was pleasantly suprised at how quick the treatment was and relatively pain free.
It was only a few days after my first treatment that i noticed the effects – my skin felt plumped, my pores seemed smaller and my scars were hardly showing! i was extremely happy to say the least!
I only had one concern: As the cost of the eMatrix was £500 a treatment, and I was also having to save for my sister’s wedding, I wasn’t sure if I could afford the next two to complete my course. Thankfully after talking to my nurse, i was told that they had an interest free payment plan. Fantastic i thought! At £125 a month for 12 months it meant I could complete my treatment and the results were out of this world!
Before I had the eMatrix treatment I would have spent about £150 pounds a month on make-up, shoes and any other little bits to cheer me up before a night out, now I could put this money towards changing my skin for good!
I can now go out feeling and looking great and even saving myself a little each month. It has hugely boosted my self confidence. Words cannot express how greatful I am to the team at MBNS clinic in Thame.

The welcome at MBNS, the specialist medico beauty salon in Thame’s North Street, could not be warmer. Both the outside of the clinic and its interior are elegantly draped in Christmas decorations. I’ve arrived on an invitation to experience for myself MBNS’s open door policy. Anyone can drop in for just a chat and a cup of coffee. “Some people feel a little shy about coming to a medico beauty clinic,” says nurse Marea Brennan Thorns. “But our approach has always been to create a thoroughly relaxed atmosphere. There is absolutely no pressure on anyone who just wants to have a look around the place and to hear about our work and to see if we can help them.
On this particular morning, the friendliness of the clinic is enhanced still further by the alluring scent of freshly baked mince pies which have come straight from Lotte Duncan’s Kitchen. (MBNSalong with local and TV chef, Lotte Duncan are joining forces to bring the Christmas spirit to Thame). I sink back down into one of the sofas and, over a free steaming ginger bread latté, listen as Marea explains how the many non-invasive procedures which are carried out at MBNS can help transform our looks, from tackling wrinkles to simply rejuvenating our skin. Treatments that are comfortable and long-lasting.
“Now is really a great time to consider a skin treatment, in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year when there are parties and events to attend” says Marea. Winter weather and the drying effects of central heating can have a really adverse impact on the condition of our skin. But the treatments we have here at MBNS can be truly transformative, restoring the skin’s softness, suppleness and firmness. What’s more the transformation can be remarkable and, in many cases, is visible and noticeable almost at once. As well as spoiling yourself you can also treat a partner or friend by way of an early Christmas present.”
On the subject of imaginative Christmas presents, I spot a whole range of beauty and cosmetic products elegantly arranged in gift packs. “You won’t find many of these really advanced products in High Street shops,” says Marea, “only here at MBNS. Take the iS Clinical range of skincare products. They are fabulous but are exclusive to clinics like ourselves. We also offer makeup demonstrations so that visitors can take advantage of the expertise of our skincare team.”
As part of the MBNS open door approach, the staff are currently running demonstrations of a new radio frequency facelift treatment, which is a skin tightening and skin rejuvenation combination called eMAX. “It’s a completely non-invasive procedure,” explains Marea. “It’s also warm and comfortable and works at firming up your facial skin and smoothing your appearance.” As part of a seasonal offer, anyone who books an eMAX combination treatment will get a free goodie bag of iS Clinical products.
As I depart, a woman I know by sight is buying some gift vouchers for friends this Christmas. I discover that she just happened to call into MBNS one day and was so impressed by the welcoming friendliness and fantastic advice that she booked a few skincare sessions. She looks five years younger than when I last saw her in the street.
