Ask Our Expert Stephanie Green RN : Sclerotherapy
Veins that can be seen through the skin of our faces or legs are usually considered to be a sign of ageing. Young skin is unblemished and smooth, so when we start to notice veins we associate it with an older skin or 'our mother's legs'!
It is now the time to treat them. At MBNS we have three different treatments for veins. On face we use IPL (Intense Pulsed Light). This is non-invasive and works well on fine veins providing you have no sun tan. It has the added bonus of treating pigment as well and plumps up the collagen giving a rejuvenated look to the skin (3 to 5 treatments spaced 4 weekly apart).
On legs, small spidery veins are treated by sclerotherapy, which although is a medicine injected directly into the veins, is very easy to tolerate.
Medium to large veins are treated with laser which is non-invasive like IPL, but can treat the greeny/blue veins over which the spider veins lie. Unfortunately we cannot treat the large knotty veins bet we can refer you to an excellent surgeon who has often suitable treatments such as 'foam' injections and not necessarily surgery.
Don't leave your vein treatment until the spring when you realise your legs will be on display, plan your treatments for Autumn or Winter and your legs will be ready to go when the sun is out!
