Fake Bake Tips from the experts!

May 30th, 2014

comm-fakebakeSummer is around the corner so you will probably be getting your summer dresses and shorts out of your cupboads and getting ready to show some leg!

So with the sunshine comes the MBNS and Qutis warning that you are all familiar with which is:  to be careful in the sun and use your SPF 50 at all times – and instead of thinking SUNTAN think FAKE BAKE TAN!

We have a full range of Fake Bake products available in clinic and online for you to buy, from Fair to Flawless and all at 20% off for the month of June, so you can get that sun-kissed look safely without damaging your skin.  Shipping from MBNS is always FREE!

For a perfect application, here are three steps to

the perfect FAKE BAKE tan:

Step 1 – Prepare your skin

Exfoliate

• We recommend the first step you take is to use a Fake Bake Body Polish (exfoliator) to gently remove flaking, or dead skin cells to help create a longer lasting tan. Remember your self-tan fades as your skin sheds. If you remove loose skin cells, the remaining ones will not wear off as quickly. Fake Bake ‘polishes’ skin, without lacerating or damaging the surface of newly exposed layers. Fake Bake Body Polish is a soap less product which will leave no residue on the skin.

• With a cupped hand, mix Fake Bake Body Polish with a little water (you may want to apply Polisher in the shower).

• Starting with your feet – apply Fake Bake Body Polish in circular motions working up your legs and body, paying particular attention to feet, knees and elbows.

• Remove excess Fake Bake Body Polish with warm damp mitts or alternatively, shower off.

Moisturise

• Immediately prior to your self-tan, apply a small amount of Fake Bake Skin Smoothie Oil to dry heels, feet, knees and elbows which can be blended when the self-tan is applied.

Step 2 – Apply Self-Tan

• Using gloves (provided with Fake Bake Self-Tan), apply product starting at your neck, working down in small circular motions.

• Working down your torso, onto your legs, lightly glazing the product over your ankles.

• It’s best to apply self-tan to the front of your leg while your knee is bent, but when applying to the back of your leg make sure its straight. Apply product at the bottom of your leg moving upwards in small circular motions.

• When you are working down your arms you can spray Fake Bake Skin Smoothie Oil onto your hands and elbows. This will emulsify the self-tan slightly and smooth the product over any dry areas.

• Keep product off your palms.

• Apply Fake Bake Face Self-Tan using a small amount. Blend over all of your face as if applying a tinted moisturiser. Take into the hair line, blend around the ears and join up to the Fake Bake on your neck.

• Allow the self-tan to dry for 15 to 20 minutes before you  redress.

Step 3 – Maintain your Self-Tanfakebake-banner

Moisturise

• To prolong your Fake Bake self-tan, make sure you keep your skin well moisturised on a daily basis. After showering either spritz yourself with Fake Bake Skin Smoothie Oil or apply Fake Bake Tan Enhancing Lotion. These products have been specially formulated to work with Fake Bake self-tans. Other moisturisers may react with tan as the Alkalines in them stripe colour leaving your skin patchy.

Exfoliate

• 5 to 7 days after your tan we recommend you gently exfoliate your skin with Fake Bake Body Polish. Repeat this every 2 days thereafter to ensure your tan fades evenly and to prepare your skin for your next Fake Bake self tan.

Spotlight on an MBNS Patient: Margaret L

May 23rd, 2014

Margaret receiving her ‘First Lady’ award!

Our nurses have been treating patients for over 17 years now at MBNS in Thame and Qutis Clinics in Witney, and many of our original clients are still  coming to see us.  As you can imagine, their skin looks amazing and they really do look their natural best.

Speaking recently to Margaret, one of our long standing patients, who at the age of 73 is still extremely fit, healthy and youthful.  Her outlook on life really does keep her feeling and looking great, both on the inside and outside.

In her own words:

” I love keeping fit and young.  I exercise regularly and still travel from Yorkshire to Oxfordshire to get my Botox and dermal fillers done”.

“I even use their skincare in the form of Super Serum Advance  and Youth Complex.  I would never go to another clinic, as clearly they do the best job on my face and I do the rest by feeling confidant enough to exercise with younger people!”

“Last week I completed the 25 mile Rotherham Round Walk and because I was the first female to finish I was given the The First Lady Award!  I was also given a shield which will have my name engraved on.   It’s got all the winners names on, going back to 1992. I completed it in 5 hours 49 minutes and I walked with the same young man that I had walked with last year,  and if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have completed it in that time!”

Dermal Filler Treatment at MBNS using Juvederm Ultra

Here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics we find that there is no better way to tell others about what we do than our own patients doing it for us!

A dermal filler called Juvederm Ultra was used

Post procedure, she wanted to tell everyone just how happy she is with the results.

Here is a short video from a patient of ours, who decided to have  dermal filler treatment recently at MBNS Clinic in Thame, Oxfordshire.

Post procedure, she wanted to tell everyone just how happy she is with the results. Our nurse Marea used a dermal filler called Juvederm Ultra.  It contains an anesthetic and so the procedure is comfortable and quick, and the results are so natural.  There’s  no magic in this video, no soft lighting, and no make up – just the facts!

If you would like to make an appointment for a consultation with one of our specialist nurses, please call MBNS on 01844 213007 or their sister clinic Qutis Witney on 01993 704050.

We provide treatments for wrinkle reduction, dermal fillers, IPL permanent hair removal and mole and skin tag removal to name a few.  Our award winning specialist nurses have been treating for over 17 years in the Oxfordshire area.

New Treatment at MBNS – fat dissolving injections!

May 14th, 2014

aqualyx

Fat dissolving injections with Aqualyx

MBNS and Qutis Clinics are now excited to be offering fat dissolving injections.  Here is some information about this fantastic new treatment:

Fat dissolving injections with Aqualyx is a permanent treatment.  It enables individuals to target problem areas of fat on the body that are resistant to diet and exercise (i.e, thighs, buttocks, and back to name a few).

This is a medical procedure that is  carried out by our advanced nurse practitioners at our clinics in Thame and Witney.  it is NOT intended for weight loss.

How fat dissolving injections with Aqualyx works

The Aqualyx product is not a diet pill or weight loss supplement of any kind. Instead it is a medical procedure that must be carried out by doctors or advanced nurse practitioners.

The injections work by using certain ingredients which attach to tissues that bind our fat to our cell walls. These ingredients are plant polymers and when they have attached themselves to this tissue they then split.  As a result of this,  the fat in our cells is dissolved and reabsorbed back into our bloodstream so that it is then excreted out of the body through the urination process.

Some before and after photos of fat dissolving injections with Aqualyx

This does not make you lose weight but instead is a way to sculpt your body making certain areas of it look defined by removing only moderate fat stores.

Aqualyx injections are not recommend for use for the following groups of people:

– Pregnant or nursing women.

– Those who have a family history of or are suffering from diabetes.

– Those who have a large amount of fat to be removed.

– Those who are trying to lose actual body weight.

– Those under the age of 18 or over the age of 60.

Why I went into nursing by Paula Shurrock

May 12th, 2014

_MG_2736

Paula Surrock RN

With National Nurses Day upon us on today, I have been asking our nurse team here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics what was the deciding factor as to why they took up this profession in the first place.

Today, I spoke to Paula Shurrock RN.  In her own words…

“I had a weekend job as a teenager in a nursing home,  serving afternoon tea and washing the dishes,  which I loved.  I would talk to the residents and help out where I could like finding a book they wanted to read and basically helping them in their daily living,  which made me feel good.”

I’m so glad that I took her advice as I’ve loved my nursing career.

“When I was old enough, I went on to be a care assistant at weekends and really enjoyed the demands and rewards of team work with one goal in mind which was  to deliver the best care and to assist in the quality of life for the residents.  It was while I was chatting to other carers about what I should do when I leave school that the matron overheard and said ‘Well nursing of course, Nurse Fox!’ ”

“I’m so glad that I took her advice as I’ve loved my nursing career.  Not one thing would I change.  In thirty years I have been lucky enough to experience a wide variety of nursing and even in tough times I’ve always had that same feeling I did as a teenager – I have made a difference.”

If you would like to arrange a consultation with Paula or any of our specialist nurses, at MBNS or QUTIS clinics, please call MBNS on 01844 213007 or Qutis on 01993 704050.  If you would prefer to contact us by email, please CLICK HERE FOR MBNS and HERE FOR QUTIS.

National Nurses Day

May 12th, 2014

marea ICU

Marea working in ITU

Today is National Nurses’ Day, and so we are celebrating our nurses.  Marea was an ITU nurse before becoming an Aesthetic Nurse.  Here is her own words:

“In 1979, I was recruited to work in one of the first Open Heart Surgery Centres in The Netherlands. I had just trained in Cardiac Surgery ITU as a post registration qualification. The Dutch Health Authority needed suitably qualified nurses & I joined a multinational team as we commissioned modern equipment for this brand new & prestigious surgical unit. ”

“I chose to leave the NHS behind and start a new life in healthcare in another country. I wanted recognition for my qualification and to work without ‘the culture of cuts’.  In a single move, I doubled my salary and improved my standard of living. In our heart surgery ITU in Utrecht, our patients had the best of everything. I spent four years in Holland and rose to Senior Sister. I made lots of friends, learnt Dutch & it really shaped me and helped me aspire to healthcare improvement. ”

“From one point of view, it is a shame that my experience in Holland meant that for me, I did not want to return to the British NHS ‘culture of cuts.’ ”

“At the age of 59 and now the co-owner of my own clinic, I might one day in the next 10 years, take my experience of setting up profitable nurse-led clinics and my MSc in Clinical Practice to help the NHS get back on it’s feet…that’s if it would have me!”

If you would like to arrange a consultation with Marea or any of our specialist nurses, at MBNS or QUTIS clinics, please call MBNS on 01844 213007 or Qutis on 01993 704050.  If you would prefer to contact us by email, please CLICK HERE FOR MBNS and HERE FOR QUTIS.

Nursing is in my blood …by Marea Brennan Thorns

May 9th, 2014

photo

Marea during her nursing days with the other “Charlies Angels”!

We at MBNS and Qutis Clinics are celebrating our nurses as it is National Nurses’ Day on 12th May.  Today we talk to Marea about why and how she got into nursing.

“I was not one of those little girls who wanted to be a nurse. After finishing Art College, I started work as a junior commercial artist in a large Sheffield Advertising Agency. But I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.”

“My mum was a nurse and suggested I might give nursing a try.  Which I did. During preliminary training at Nurse training school in 1973 I was fascinated by anatomy and physiology and how disease affected the body. And then, when I went onto the wards as a student nurse, I grew to enjoy helping and caring for sick people.”

“My first hospital was over 100 years old and was the RCN_NursesDayLogo_01-01_optformer ‘workhouse’ for the poor and destitute of Rotherham.  It had long nightingale wards. After 9 months as a young 18 year old, I did my first night duty stint. I was still a little frightened of the dark, and yet I was left in charge of an adult female medical ward with a nursing auxiliary ‘runner’ between my ward and the male medical ward across the corridor! Talk about being thrown in at the deep end!”

“By the time I did my obstetric secondment, I was a confident 20 year old and approaching my third year. The head midwife was called Sr Perkins and on my first day on maternity ward, she singled me out and told our group that she had delivered me at home about 20 years ago! I checked with my mum, and indeed a ‘Nurse Perkins!’ had been my mum’s midwife.”

“Much later my Auntie told me how her mum, my Grandma Brennan had always been called upon to help young mothers deliver their babies in the pit village, where I grew up. She also helped lay out her neighbours who had passed away. My Grandmother’s sister meanwhile never married and had been one of the first trained midwives and nurses. When she visited my Grandma whilst on leave, apparently she would see my Grandma’s neighbours who would come to her with their ailments when they couldn’t afford a doctor’s visit”.

So I think nursing is in my blood!

National Nurses’ Day – spotlight on Adrian Baker RN NIP

May 7th, 2014

Adrian Baker

In honour of National Nurses’ Day, we ask Adrian Baker what prompted him to become a nurse

As National Nurses’ Day is upon us on 12th May (the birthday of Florence Nightingale), I wanted to ask each of our great nurses here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics what made them decide to be nurses in the first place.

Today we feature Adrian Baker who has been with MBNS and Qutis Clinics for three years and was an NHS Nurse previous to becoming an Aesthetic Nurse.  Adrian was awarded the British Journal of Nursing’s Aesthetic Nurse of the Year award this year, 2014.

Here in his own words is Adrian’s reasons for becoming a nurse:

RCN_NursesDayLogo_01-01_opt“I came into nursing following severe depression in my late teens to early 20’s, where I had come across such wonderful healthcare professionals that cared for me (And some not so wonderful!).

This element of caring and having a positive impact upon another person was what spurred me to become a nurse and still runs as a central core in the nursing care I provide today. Being a nurse can be so many things to so many people, but I firmly believe that nurses are not just professionals, but people; people who want to do good for the people they meet, with no matter for the context in which they meet.  This may be assisting in a person’s personal hygiene, telling a grieving relative of a death, dressing a wound or lifting the esteem of a patient with a skin issue.

All are important and all these moments can have an impact upon that other person for the rest of their life.  Those ‘moments’ of care impacted upon me and lead me into my nursing role today, to assist in the elevation of a persons self esteem.”

If you would like to find out more about the treatments we offer here at MBNS and Qutis Clinics, such as wrinkle reduction, laser hair removal or dermal fillers to name a few,  why not book a consultation with one of our nurse specialists.  Call MBNS on 01844 213007 or Qutis on 01993 704050.

If you would prefer to contact us by email, click HERE FOR MBNS and HERE FOR QUTIS

We look forward to helping you achieve your skin health goals.

The Countdown to National Nurses’ Day is on!

May 2nd, 2014

RCN_NursesDayLogo_01-01_optEvery year, on the 12th of May, nurses observe National Nursing Day.  Few can say they are unaffected by the hard work and devotion of nurses in the UK and all through the world International Nurses Day is an occasion to discover about the vocation of nurses and their workplaces. National Nurses’ Week is celebrated May 6-12 each year.

The reason that Nurses Day is observed on the 12th May every year is because this is the birth date of Florence Nightingale.  She made many improvements to nursing and health care and radically cut the death rate amid soldiers in the Crimean War as a consequence of her hard work, devotion and tuition of fellow nurses.

MBNS and Qutis Clinics invite all patients to sign a pledge

The RCN is calling for nurses and patients to sign a pledge showing their support for individual nurses and the profession as a whole, in the run up to May the 12th.  Therefore, MBNS and Qutis will be inviting their patients to the clinic on this day of festivities and encourage them to drop by and celebrate by coming in for some special coffee and chat amongst friends.

MBNS and Qutis Clinics are raising money on National Nurses Day for the Helena Benevolent Fund

rbnalogo_opt

Royal British Nurses’ Association

MBNS and Qutis are also raising money for The Helena Benevolent fund which is one of the RBNA’s  charities for helping nurses who have been unable to work due to illness or disability.  MBNS  and Qutis Clinics will be donating 50% of all treatments on 12th May to this worthy cause.

Our Aesthetic Nurse Specialists:  (Marea Brennan Thorns, MSc, RN, NIP, Stephanie Green RN,  Paula Shurrock RN and Adrian Baker RN NIP)  have collectively 45 years  experience in providing anti-ageing treatments  such as wrinkle relaxants and dermal fillers to over 5000 patients.
