The award ceremony and this inaugural award took place at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre on the Southbank, London on Friday evening where Esther Rantzen presented the award.
On receiving the award Marea said:
Marea Brennan Thorns accepting her award at the BJN 22/3/13
Thank you for this award which I accept on behalf of all independent nurses committed to good nursing practice.
“The field of Aesthetic Medicine is full of extraordinary nurse entrepreneurs”
In particular to my teams at MBNS & Qutis Advanced Skin Clinics who nominated me and who are all award winners in the eyes of the patients they have served for the last 14 years.
The field of Aesthetic Medicine is full of extraordinary nurse entrepreneurs, many of whom have religiously stuck with the vision that “nurses can be leaders, nurses can be business owners & nurses can combine all of these things & still have their patients at the heart of all that they do.”
BJN Awards 22/3/13
It seems fitting today to address such a positive side of nursing especially after the negative press regarding nurses that has been so prominent in the press recently.

We here at MBNS are often asked about our fantastic IPL and Laser hair Removal treatment, so here are the 10 Frequently Asked Questions For IPL/ Laser Hair Removal
Q: What is the difference between IPL and laser?
A: The main difference between IPL and laser is how the light, heat, and energy is delivered; Laser delivers a direct energy, whereas IPL delivers a broad spectrum of light which is dispersed over a larger area. Both treatments are effective and will offer good results.
Q: Is the treatment painful?
A: The treatment is no more painful than waxing. MBNS strive for patient comfort and satisfaction at all times. During treatment your practitioner will endeavour to make you as comfortable as possible, we will apply a cool gel to the skin before treatment and have cold air blowing directly on the skin during treatment.
Q: Is it permanent?
Yes, once your treatment course is complete all the hair follicles that have been treated have been permanently killed and will not return. This is normally around 20% of the hair present and which is in growth phase at any one time. This is why a course of 6 treatments are recommended for the fullest removal.
Q: When can I have the treatment
The best time for a female to have treatment is just after her menstrual cycle; if recently waxed or plucked we would recommend waiting 2-3 weeks before your first IPL/ Laser treatment.
Q: I’m pregnant, I am still able to have treatment?
No. There have been no clinical studies to prove that Laser Hair Removal may have side effects to pregnant or breastfeeding women, however there have been no studies to say treatment is safe during pregnancy either. Because of this MBNS practices on the cautious side and does not treat pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patient safety is always our first concern.
Q: What do I do with my body hair between treatments?
We request that patients do not remove the hairs by the root between treatments, for example no waxing, plucking, or hair removal creams. Trimming or shaving is the best way to maintain your hair growth during your treatment cycle. Removing the hair follicle by the root during your treatment course will upset the hair growth cycle and could result in more treatments being required for complete removal.
Q: Does the treatment only work on dark, coarse hair?
Dark hairs are the most ideal hairs…As long as there is some pigmentation in the hair follicle, the laser hair removal will be successful. Our IPL & Laser Hair Removal machines accommodate for every skin type. During consultation your practitioner will confirm the exact results you can expect to achieve.
Q: Are there any health risks involved?
It is important to visit a clinic which is led by healthcare professionals with expert training and experience behind them.
Q: Can I have the treatment anytime?
The only guidelines for Laser Hair Removal are; you cannot have an active suntan or be wearing any fake tan. You cannot be currently taking any medication or herbal pills that cause photosensitivity (for example St. John’s Wart), and you cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Q: How much will the treatment cost me?
Treatment prices vary depending on the area the patient wishes to have treated, MBNS is competitively priced and we do offer discounts on treatment packages. We use the best Laser machines on the market which offer maximum results, the benefit of this is that fewer treatments will be required for complete hair removal.

Bright Eye Treatment not Botox – a special offer at MBNS – that perfect gift for Mother’s Day
Although we are a Botox clinic and a skin care clinic, we don’t advocate giving a Botox or Dermal Filler treatment as a Mother’s Day gift. We would prefer your mum to come in for a consultation with one of our specialist nurses to discuss all the treatments we offer in a relaxed and unrushed environment. Deciding to go ahead with these specialised treatments should be thought about and many questions asked both about the treatments that are of interest and in the experience of your nurse.
Our experience is second to none!
We have been in business over 17 years and have four specialist nurses working six days a week in all areas of skin health. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you want, as our experience and professionalism is second to none.
We do know though that eye wrinkles may be of concern to your Mum, so let her reclaim her youthful eyes by giving her for Mother’s Day instead the new eMatrix Youthful Eyes Treatment.
Our new energy eye based treatment works deeper into the dermis than most lasers to promote new collagen around the eye area making the eyes look brighter, and more youthful. In addition to this treatment we also give you an iS Clinical Youth Eye Complex Cream which lasts 6 months – all this for only £150!
Want to find out more? Call us on 01844 213007, and make your Mum happy and brighter eyed this Mother’s Day.
